It is October 17th and Denver just received its first freeze warning of the season. We had a frost warning a few weeks back and I brought my plants indoors because they were still producing. I got 4 tomatoes, my lettuce is still growing and I picked multiple jalapenos off my plants over the weekend! However, as a Colorado girl I find it a little ridiculous that this is happening. Mother Nature, what the heck? Isn't it supposed to be much colder now? This is probably normal and I am being dramatic...
I digress...
So, I could bring them in, so I could be greedy in the hopes of getting more fruit over the next week since it is supposed to warm up. Or do I let mother nature take it course? I wonder if other container farmers worry about this because we have the option of bringing them indoors so they last longer. While the dirt farmers have the option of covering the plants with blankets while crossing their fingers that they will survive the night.
Oh what to do....
I can't even imagine frost so soon, and now you have snow! Your growing season seemed so short! We are spoiled here. We have at least another five months, if winter gardens are planted. Time to compost?
ReplyDeleteYes, warmer climate growers are very spoiled!! I also want to learn to can so I can eat my produce in the middle of snowy weather! Yes, time to compost and play with worms :)
